This wonderful breed of Mountain Dog makes a fine addition to any farm where a herd or flock is threatened by a natural predator. Maremmas are working Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs), and are selectively bred for their abilities and integrity above all else. This breeding practice has procured a powerful, innate sense of responsibility within the breed. Maremmas are valued for their intelligence, awareness, and skill in their role as caretaker and defender of farm animals. They primarily guard sheep and goats and can be used with poultry. With a Maremma companion, a flock can be turned out entirely free-range throughout the summer. Maremmas can live outdoors all winter with their flock.
